Analyst Q&A 1
research growth, AI, partnerships, learning impact
Q (Dan Moore · CJS): The analyst asked how research organic growth (excluding AI and Emerald) compares to peers and supports their mid-single-digit outlook; he also asked about AI revenue last year and this quarter, the cadence of growth/margins/EPS, early results from Emerald, progress with partnerships (IQVIA, Open Evidence, Anthropic, AWS), and the impact of Amazon inventory on learning and organic growth excluding books.
A: They said research is growing in line with market leaders and cited market long-term growth of 3% to 4% with momentum building through the year and strong KPIs. On AI, they said Q2 last year was "a little bit more balanced around $1 million or so" and noted they did "$14 million in the fourth quarter, and we have already contracted for another $14 million over the next 2 quarters," with lumpy phasing. Emerald is "no surprises," fitting well and on or slightly ahead of schedule with synergies expected to reach "$30 million by year 3"; the IQVIA partnership and clinical outcome assessments have grown ("from hundreds of thousand dollars to $11 million last year"); Open Evidence is a "$15 million over 5 years" deal; learning was affected by Amazon inventory reductions in late August but academic content and assessments are normalizing.
"We are growing along the same lines with the leaders in the market." — Matthew S. Kissner (CEO)
