Analyst Q&A 1
Memory chips and GlocalMe Life revenue
Q (Theodore O'Neill · Litchfield Hills): He asked what the company is doing about rising memory chip costs and other semiconductor supply issues. He also asked why GlocalMe Life revenue fell while average daily active users rose.
A: Management said memory chip costs rose "almost 5 to 10x," so they increased memory storage purchases early to offset price rises, which hurt cash flow. They also covered higher chipset costs, later raised sale prices (mindful of customer acceptance), revised hardware to reduce memory needs, and noted PCB and other component costs and delays are up, affecting products like MiFi and PetPhone. For GlocalMe Life, management said second-quarter hardware deliveries were a little down, which lowered quarterly revenue, while MAUs rose because MAU counts cumulative historical sold hardware; they added that larger first-quarter orders (placed before price increases) made second-quarter orders look lower but first-half revenue rose dramatically versus last year.
"For the memory chip, everyone know it's almost 5 to 10x increase." — Chaohui Chen (CEO)
