Analyst Q&A 2
EU GMP impact and exit of flower
Q (Frederico Gomes · ATB Cormark): He asked how material the EU GMP certification at Atholville would be financially, including savings and international opportunities. He also asked why the company decided to exit domestic flower and whether that will hurt sales in other categories.
A: They expect the EU GMP certification any day now and said it eliminates processor costs of CAD 0.20-CAD 0.45 a gram; facility upgrades (lights and HVAC) should improve quality and yields to help realized pricing in international markets. On domestic flower, they said high-cost indoor production does not fit the domestic dried-flower price point, SNDL lacks the large greenhouse scale peers have, and they will focus on edibles, beverages, distribution and license relationships, which they don’t believe will hurt other category sales.
"If you had to rely on processors, you're looking at costs of anywhere from CAD 0.20-CAD 0.45 a gram." — Zach George (CEO)
Core cannabis strengths and U.S. capital
Q (Aaron Grey · A.G.P./Alliance Global Partners): He asked what core competencies SNDL needs to win in Cannabis Operations and whether the company could add or sell assets to improve competitiveness. He also asked about the dynamics and timing for deploying capital into U.S. assets and whether they can do that now.
A: They said they need stronger commercial execution: better category focus, consumer understanding, commercialization strategy and distribution, alongside operational execution improvements (layout, capital investment, S&OP and labor efficiency). Regarding the U.S., they said they can deploy capital today via their SunStream joint venture, most capital has been repatriated, and the next steps are to reconcile remaining exposures and work to consolidate the medical exposure while engaging regulators and exchanges.
"We're now at a point where most of the capital has been repatriated, and the next step will be to reconcile these remaining exposures and work to consolidate the medical exposure." — Zach George (CEO)
