Analyst Q&A 2
How much AI ARR is new vs upsell
Q (Jacob Stephan · Lake Street): He asked how much of the AI-related ARR is truly new customer spend versus repricing or rebundling at renewal, and also asked about pricing and attach rates. He then asked whether MCP forces customers to buy the underlying Scite or Article Galaxy products.
A: They said the AI-related ARR figure is a net ARR growth number that could be an upsell or a new sale, and they have not broken out upsell versus new. They will disclose an AI-related revenue number going forward, but they do not plan to split upsell and new; they noted the $800,000 number is part of a net ARR growth for the year of $1.8 million or $1.9 million. On pricing, they run some usage-based models, but typically price by seats or enterprise with caps on usage and customers must buy additional usage above those caps; and today MCP requires the corresponding product license though they are testing models to separate them (harder on AG, easier on Scite).
"That's a net ARR growth number of AI-related products that could be an upsell or could be a new sale." — Roy Olivier (CEO·CHAIR)
MCP usage, Gateway traction, pipeline size
Q (Derek Greenberg · Maxim Group): He asked how usage of MCP compares to the traditional products and whether MCP is replacing them. He also asked about Gateway product economics and traction, and whether the AI product pipeline is larger than prior quarter.
A: They said users are moving to MCP: assistant usage is declining while MCP usage is skyrocketing, and Scite MCP has over 18 million AI reads with strong recent growth. For Article Galaxy MCP the rollout is more cautious and still early; Gateway is also early but there is demand from publishers who want subscriptions and usage data, though broad traction is limited so far. On the pipeline, management said it is "well over" the prior $1 million figure today but they had no exact number to give.
"And so assistant usage is declining and MCP is actually really skyrocketing." — Josh Nicholson
