Analyst Q&A 3
reason for weak volumes and yields
Q (David Scharf · Citizens Capital Market): Is there new insight on volume headwinds, consumer preference, or competition since last quarter? Also, any detail on how to model yields after the pricing changes?
A: They launched a line of credit product and are encouraged by early testing and the full launch; they expect it to be a growth lever for next year and are also evaluating earned wage access as a complement. Management said they are cautious because they are undergoing a strategic bank transaction and have about $140 million of cash, but recoveries are dependable and growing. On yields, they run at a higher margin than peers, are comfortable reducing yield for higher quality customers in some cases, and said Q4 was flat year over year.
"We are positioned really well with a lot of optionality for growth in 2027." — Todd G. Schwartz (CEO·CHAIR)
line-of-credit rollout and Model 7 impact
Q (Dave Storms · Stonegate): What did you learn from the initial line of credit rollout about customer demand and marketing? How do those learnings apply to earned wage access and other products? Also, could Model 7 or other factors change normal seasonality into 2027?
A: The rollout is adding marketing sources and they plan to offer the product in existing states, with plans to start scaling in the next 2 months to get data for 2027 forecasts; the line of credit launch was slightly delayed but launched in Q3. Earned wage access shows product-market fit, many customers use it daily to manage cash flows, and it offers marketing capabilities; they plan to focus on scaling the line of credit and adding earned wage access in 2027 and have nothing else to report now. They said Model 7 will enable more accurate targeting and higher conversion, LOLA migration is originating 100% of net new volume now, and they are finishing migration substantially this year, which supports confidence in returning to unit and origination growth in 2027.
size and timing of strategic investments
Q (Mike Grondahl · Northland): How much are you investing in the strategic initiatives on Slide 6, and are any investments one-off? Any timing update on the bank transaction? What are the terms and flexibility of the $75 million Castlelake draw, and how would you pay for the bank purchase?
A: The investments together likely exceed $150 million when you add buybacks, a $42 million TRA, about $35 million to rebuild the LOLA system, the Bitty investment and the bank transaction. For the bank transaction they are actively responding to regulators and are hopeful to resolve it by Q4 but said it could bleed into Q1, of 2027 and they will update as available. The Castlelake financing is a flexibility-focused facility with an interest rate around 12% and flexible payback; the announced bank deal is 50% stock, 50% cash and they said they have ample cash to fulfill the transaction.
"If you kind of add it all together, it probably even it probably even might be over a $150 million, when all said and done." — Todd G. Schwartz (CEO·CHAIR)
