Analyst Q&A 1
MSI semiconductor unit, products and customers
Q (Casey Ryan · AmerX): He asked if MSI's semiconductor tech feeds MicroVision products or is sold to third parties and defense. He also asked how commercial engagement accelerated, whether 40% to 50% gross margin guidance still holds, and if OpEx falls about 28% after layoffs.
A: MSI came from Black Forest Engineering and was critical for designing silicon inside IRIS and HALO. Management said MSI can both support MicroVision products and attract outside defense and space customers, while helping MOVIA development though those chips are not in production yet. They said commercial traction comes from strong products (IRIS, MOVIA), being a U.S./German manufacturer, and a new commercial leader; gross margins will fluctuate but long-term targets are about 40% to 45%; the 28% headcount cut will reduce cash burn and should materialize in 2027.
"And what we realized is they were critical for designing key parts of the silicon inside of both IRIS as well as HALO." — Glen DeVos (CEO)
