Analyst Q&A 1
Production versus prototypes, and software sales
Q (Troy Jensen · Cantor Fitzgerald): He asked how much of the manufacturing business is now series production after noting series production was up 30%. He also asked whether aerospace and defense mainly drive the strength and why the software business is stagnant.
A: They will not give the exact split, but said the company is moving toward a relatively balanced level between series manufacturing and prototyping. Aerospace and defense is a clear growth highlight in 3D printing, alongside semiconductor and general industries, and transportation (large boats and equipment) still contributes a lot. For software, they said market pressures and longer sales cycles for supporting series production with CO-AM are weighing on software revenues compared with shorter prototyping sales cycles.
"So the extended sales cycles that we are now feeling as we focus more and more on series production, that is one of the elements that weigh from the software revenues as well." — Brigitte de Vet-Veithen (CEO)
