Analyst Q&A 1
Becoming primary contractor and defense opportunities
Q (Peter Gastreich · Water Tower): He asked about the trade-offs of serving as a primary contractor, specifically effects on margins and capital intensity. He also asked what must happen next and the timeline to convert the multiphase defense opportunity into revenue.
A: They said they will not take long-term charter commitments and instead aim to use short-term "vessels of opportunity" to minimize execution risk. They said using their own software, Toolkit, increases margins and lets them specialize on two contract types to reduce risk. They also said they are pursuing longer-term defense work with active proposals (Typically, 2, 3 years and longer), refurbishing the Aquanaut for mine countermeasures testing, and have lost no revenue to competitors.
"Now with regards to the risk element to it, Yes, if you look at primary contracting status where you are actually running your own vessel, it is a lot riskier, but we are not looking to do that." — Brian Allen
