Analyst Q&A 2
AI benefits, international profit, cash plan
Q (Aashi Shah · Sidoti & Company): They asked what concrete benefits the AI investments are delivering (lower acquisition costs, better conversion, agent productivity, lower costs). They also asked which international markets are profitable and whether the company will need to raise cash.
A: Management said the first AI phase automates and optimizes workflows, lowering operating costs and improving operational efficiency, and they have seen initial success in the operating expense ratio. The second phase uses AI in the mobile app to drive self-directed policy purchases, improving conversion and agent productivity. They said Hong Kong is already profitable, Singapore is ramping and expected profitable this year, Vietnam is nearly profitable but not EBITDA positive, and they are unlikely to raise capital now given decent cash on the balance sheet while they keep investing about USD 10 million in AI.
"And that typically means that lower operating costs and improve operational efficiency." — Kwok Ho Tam (CFO)
Hong Kong demand after Decree 837 news
Q (Amy Chen · Citi): They asked whether Huize has seen changes in customer demand in Hong Kong (and domestically) after Decree 837 and media reports about tax treatment.
A: Management said that based on July and month-to-date August data and channel checks, market sentiment and momentum in Hong Kong remain robust. They expect some impact on certain customers' mindset, noted the media article's content is not new and reflects existing regulations, and said underlying demand for offshore products still remains intact given attractive international asset allocation and the interest rate differential.
"And with the media article that you mentioned, the content of the article is actually nothing new." — Kwok Ho Tam (CFO)
