Analyst Q&A 2
Irwin online growth vs wholesale
Q (Sean McGowan · ROTH Capital Partners): He asked whether moving more Irwin sales online met expectations and whether online sales have reduced wholesale sales or been incremental.
A: Management said the shift to online has exceeded expectations. They noted a prior third-party sold about $2 million-$3 million a year and now the company has grown beyond that, with one product pacing about $1.5 million-$2 million a year. They said they cannot quantify how much is cannibalized but expect some store sales moved online and that they do not want to take volumes from wholesale partners.
"In terms of expectations, I think it has exceeded our expectations." — Dayton Judd (CEO)
MusclePharm sales and margin trends
Q (Sean McGowan · ROTH Capital Partners): He asked what the company is seeing on MusclePharm, since it was not discussed much on this call.
A: Revenue is down year-over-year but was up significantly Q1-Q2. Management said declines came mostly from very price-sensitive international customers after protein prices rose, while the remaining business is growing and margins improved — Q2 margins are several hundred basis points higher. They also said new SKUs launched in Kroger late in Q2 showed weekly upticks and MusclePharm on Amazon is growing double-digits, so headline revenue may look worse while profitability is improving.
"Revenue, I would say, is down a bit year-over-year, but up significantly Q1-Q2." — Dayton Judd (CEO)
