Analyst Q&A 10

Which lines are getting more reinsurance

Q (Meyer Shields · KBW): Which lines of business are you buying more reinsurance for? Also, is the drop in North America Commercial admin expenses unusual or from tech efficiencies?

A: Management said the extra reinsurance was in certain areas of financial lines and in property, placed to maintain service and spread risk. They said operating expense ratio is improving globally due to digital transformation and technology, including algorithmic and large language tools, with efficiencies showing across underwriting, marketing, claims, finance and sales.

"Well, as you know and I think we discussed it is in financial lines, certain areas of financial lines, and it is in property." — Evan Greenberg (CEO·CHAIR)

How will AI liability be insured

Q (Matthew Heimermann · Citi): How should we think about covering AI liability — new standalone products, changes to existing forms, or no change? Also, was anything in the quarter or prior year affecting Asia life production comps?

A: Management said AI liability is an emerging exposure that needs underwriting and will likely be handled with a mix of coverage clarifications, exclusions, and separate AI-related liability coverages, plus evolving model certification and governance practices to help underwriting. For Asia life, they said a New Zealand closed block acquisition in Q3 2025 impacted comparables by about 8%, so on a comparable basis net written premium growth was about 10.5%.

"In managing the risk, I imagine we are going to have a combination of coverage clarifications, ultimately exclusions, and separate AI-related liability coverages." — Evan Greenberg (CEO·CHAIR)

Why North America Commercial is improving

Q (Brian Meredith · UBS): Is North America Commercial improving because property headwinds are easing, or because new opportunities are emerging? Also, does alternative capital like sidecars affect market conditions?

A: They said it's a combination: the negative impacts from prior actions will diminish and areas of opportunity, especially middle and small commercial, will increase as product breadth and data/technology advantages take hold. On alternative capital, they said sidecars and broker facilities have increased supply relative to demand and represent a lot of naive capacity that may not price correctly versus loss cost.

"This is all throwing out of balance the supply relative to demand, and it is a lot of very naive capacity." — Evan Greenberg (CEO·CHAIR)

Asia opportunities and data center risk

Q (Bob Huang · Morgan Stanley): How do you view Asia growth opportunities now, and has your view changed in 2026? Also, what's your exposure and approach to data center construction and concentration risk?

A: They clarified earlier country examples cited were in life, then said Asia and North America are the fastest-growing regions now, with Asia benefiting from U.S. capital investment and supply-chain ties and offering sustainable opportunity despite volatility. On data centers, they said many projects are still in the pipeline or delayed, they are active in construction, marine and surety, and they manage concentration technically across perils and are comfortable with Chubb's approach.

"When you think about values, and I think you are alluding to that in concentration of exposure, we manage it technically no differently than we manage any other concentration of exposure." — Evan Greenberg (CEO·CHAIR)

Reason for NA Commercial loss ratio change

Q (Ryan Tunis · Cantor): Is the roughly one-point deterioration in North America Commercial loss ratio due to pricing versus loss trend, or something else? And why has Overseas General been stable year to date?

A: They said the loss ratio change is not pricing-driven but is due to a mix shift: a reduction in property as a percent of the business. On Overseas General they said there is no single pricing environment—conditions vary by region and country—and noted consumer lines and accident & health are growing and contribute to stability and growth.

"You've seen the reduction in property, and so property as a percentage is down." — Evan Greenberg (CEO·CHAIR)

High-net-worth results and reserve adequacy

Q (Andrew Kligerman · TD Cowen): Are the strong high-net-worth results sustainable given competitive pressures and AI? Also, can you comment on reserve adequacy for recent accident years and confidence in longer-tail lines?

A: They said high-net-worth business is bespoke and service-driven, a trust and agent-driven relationship, so price is not the main factor and they expect steady results with some variability. On reserves they said they are slow to recognize favorable development but quick to recognize adverse development, and the recent favorable development was modest and concentrated in older accident years like 2019-2022.

"We're slow to recognize favorable development but very quick to recognize adverse." — Evan Greenberg (CEO·CHAIR)

Investment income outlook and NA Commercial glide path

Q (Tracy Benguigui · Wolfe): With market yields up and duration extended, what are expectations for adjusted net investment income? Also, how far along are you on underwriting actions to improve North America Commercial?

A: Peter said they are not providing specific guidance but that the reinvestment environment is much more attractive and fixed income-related net investment income should continue to grow; he noted private equity returns are volatile. Evan declined to give more detail on the North America Commercial underwriting glide path and said he had given as much as he would.

"The way I'd frame it is, the reinvestment environment, as Evan said in his speech, is much more attractive." — Peter Enns (CFO)

Protecting data with AI tools

Q (Gregory Peters · Raymond James): How are you managing data security and protecting Chubb's data assets as you use large language models and other AI tools?

A: They said they employ best practices in governance and management for both data and the smart-layer tools, controlling what models can do and where they can be used. They also said they protect the perimeter with multiple layers of detection and defense, invest significantly in these controls, and apply model-management templates that have evolved from actuarial processes.

"Then protecting our own perimeter and multiple layers of detection and defense against third party or external use of agentics and AI that could imperil Chubb's own data or systems." — Evan Greenberg (CEO·CHAIR)

Margin outlook and capital allocation

Q (David Motemaden · Evercore): With growth moderating, how should we think about margin trajectory, and how are you allocating capital given buybacks and the market environment?

A: Evan declined to give margin guidance but said he feels very good about margins and sustainability of value creation. Peter said they have been consistent in preserving capital for risk and opportunity, noted buyback ticked up and returns have been around 50%, and said they are balancing returns to shareholders with deploying capital in the insurance and investment businesses, including their differentiated alternative strategy.

"David, we've been pretty consistent around preserving capital for risk and opportunity." — Peter Enns (CFO)

Casualty actions and small commercial growth

Q (Alex Scott · Barclays): Given some casualty pricing pressure, are specific underwriting actions needed? And what initiatives will drive small commercial growth?

A: They said as underwriters they are conscious of the risk and loss cost environment and match terms and pricing, staying nimble across casualty types and geographies. For small commercial they said growth comes from local geographic reach, broad product and industry-specific coverages, industry experts, data and technology to enable fast quoting, issuance and service, and scale advantages to spread know-how globally.

"As underwriters, we're conscious of the risk environment, of the loss cost environment, which we then match to terms and pricing, and we're nimble." — Evan Greenberg (CEO·CHAIR)
