Analyst Q&A 3
Investment plans and El Niño effects on energy
Q (Élio Wolff · Itaú BBA): The analyst asked if AXIA expects to reach about BRL 5 billion of investments this year and how a stronger El Niño would affect available energy and price dynamics, and whether recent purchase volumes relate to that.
A: Management said their investment program has been growing since 2022 and their aim is to reach around BRL 5 billion-BRL 5.5 billion in 2026. They reported increased rainfall in the South pushing short-term prices down in July–September with recovery from October, and warned that reduced rainfall in the North and Northeast could raise price volatility; they plan to expand sales where they have more energy available.
Why increase investments: returns or risk reduction?
Q (Bruno Amorim · Goldman Sachs): The analyst asked whether the push to increase reinforcements and improvements is driven more by financial returns given high rates, or by the need to mitigate operational risk in under-invested assets.
A: They said operational resilience is taken very seriously and that investments are mandatory for each concessionaire to preserve assets for the long term. They also said returns are adequate and they trust Brazilian regulation (ANEEL) and tariff reviews to support necessary investments over time.
"The decision, as Ivan said, first, in terms of resilience and the need to maintain the assets, thinking about the long term." — Eduardo Haiama
Allocable capital and BRL 2 billion redemption test
Q (Arthur Pereira · JPMorgan): The analyst asked why allocable capital stayed similar to Q1 despite lower short-term energy results, and what the BRL 2 billion redemption is testing.
A: They said the company de-risked after privatization and has improved models and confidence in its forecasts, which supports disclosing allocable capital with growing certainty. Their methodology uses a five-year window and conservative prices; they also accelerated energy sales this year which made them comfortable to project the allocable capital. The BRL 2 billion redemption is a larger test of shareholder participation (after a BRL 30 million test affecting ~4,000 holders), now involving many more individual shareholders, and if successful future redemptions should be routine.
"We look at a five years window going forward, and the prices that we adopt are always conservative." — Eduardo Haiama
