Analyst Q&A 4
demand, conversational AI, competition
Q (Harry Zhuang · BofA): How is demand in China and overseas and which sectors drive it? What other data scenarios could grow conversational AI, the revenue mix and gross margin? How is competition overseas against major rivals?
A: Demand on the real-time engagement (RTE) side is largely unchanged from last quarter: China demand is recovering in social entertainment and education, while U.S. and international demand grows in large shopping, financial services and gaming. For conversational AI they highlighted call centers and companionship devices, expanded into Japan and partnered with chip makers, and they are targeting a 5% revenue contribution from conversational AI by year-end. On competition, they said different players focus on different technology layers and Agora is focused on voice models, audio preprocessing/post-processing, low-latency cloud infrastructure and the agent layer, which supports confidence in their position.
"So overall, we are still targeting a 5% revenue contribution from conversational AI by the end of this year." — Jingbo Wang (CFO)
AI revenue progress and timing
Q (Yue Xu · China Securities Co.): Please update conversational AI revenue progress and the projected contribution for the full year. How long does conversion from POC to scale take, what is the backlog and the near-term trend?
A: They said moving a use case from POC to scalable deployment takes several months and many use cases must be developed one by one or in parallel. They are targeting a 5% AI revenue run rate by the end of the year, noted full-year 2026 will be smaller than 5%, and said a strong pipeline implies significant room for growth next year.
"So as I mentioned earlier, we're targeting 5% revenue contribution by the end of the year." — Jingbo Wang (CFO)
AI long-term share and gross margin
Q (Zongxuan Yang · Citic): Have you given 3–5 year guidance for AI penetration of revenue and for AI gross margin?
A: They declined to give a numeric long-term penetration rate, explaining the call center market will split into three segments (simple IVR tasks, hardest tasks handled by humans, and a middle category handled by voice AI) and the middle part could be a large share. On gross margin they said current AI gross margin is low and near the breakeven area because of subscale volumes and geography mix, but with larger scale and technical cost optimization gross margin should become similar to or higher than their RTE business.
"So at this point, it's hard to give a clear number as this market is still at a very, very early stage." — Jingbo Wang (CFO)
insider buyback, past repurchases, dividends
Q (DoubleLine Capital): How much of the additional $20 million has Tony purchased so far? What valuation reflects intrinsic value? Have you considered taking the company private or returning more capital via dividend or accelerated buyback?
A: They said Tony has not started repurchasing the new $20 million due to blackout and legal restrictions, and once cleared he will begin. They noted the company has returned about $160 million so far via share repurchases, has not decided on a special dividend now, Bin expects his purchases to start in about 2–3 weeks (September, October), and they do not currently plan to take the company private.
"So as to the $20 million, that has not started yet." — Jingbo Wang (CFO)
